Communicating in Schools
These days there are many ways to communicate with one another. Working in schools there are many people daily you have to communicate with. What are some ways using technology for teachers and parents to communicate throughout the school year? The following are ways to communicate with parents. Which way of communication do you think is best to interact with your students parents?
- Cell phones
- Emails
- Class Dojo
- Text Message
- WikiSpaces
- Blogs
As you previously stated, there are many ways to communicate with parents. In my opinion it depends primarily upon the school in which you work. If you are working at a school where the majority of parents are of the working class, computers would probably be your best bet. If you are working at a school where the majority of parents are considered to be in the low income bracket, you may want to consider using cell phones. Even if most parents do not have a home computer, they have a cell phone.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you as well that it highly depends upon which school you work at. I definitely believe with you as well, that parents of the working class have smart phones with internet and jobs they have computers. Emails, text messages, and even apps would be the best bet for communication for these parents. However, for low income schools, these parents are sometimes hard to communicate with even if they have a cell phone. Numbers sometimes get changed often and it is hard to keep up the communication. I still agree however that cell phones are the best way to communicate with these parents.
DeleteI personally have come to find out I can get in touch with parents quickly through text messages. Every parent in my classroom this past year had a cell phone and used text messaging. I set up a Remind 101 account and sent our classroom reminders this way. It was a fast way to communicate and I didn't have to worry about the "note" not getting home.;)
ReplyDeleteI like that you personally think the best way to get in touch with parents is through text messages. I personally have not done that yet. This coming year my school is trying out Class Dojo. Parents can download the app and are able to see when their child has been given a positive or negative point right when it is given in class. This gives the parents a way throughout the day to see how his/her child is doing. I also have heard great things about Remind 101. I want to try that out because I always have parents who do not get the "note" as well!
